Common Cold and Coryza by Homoeopathy

     

Common cold is a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, which causes high grade fever,

running nose, sneezing , throat pain, coughing

usually it lasts for 1 week, and some time for 2 to 3 weeks, it may sometime develop pneumonia,

children catches common cold very easily even adults are suffering from common cold,

though there is no specific treatment is available in alopathy, some anti-allergic,  NSAID and anti-biotics 

are used, which are not so effective

Causes

There are some viruses which responsible for common cold, among them most common is rhino virus,

some eating habits like:

cold drink,

chocolates,

dairy products,

dirt,

sprays,

banana,

citrus foods,

weather change,

un washed hands and mouth,

Symptoms 

High grade fever,

Running Nose,

Nose blockage

Sneezing,

Running eyes,

Throat pain,

Headache,

Coughing.

Treatment

Common cold and coryza is a very common condition, there is no specific treatment is available 

in alopathy, it is usually symptomatically treated, there is no vaccines available for such viruses,

homeopathy is based on holistic approach, there is a  verity of medicines available for common 

cold and coryza, wisely choosed medicines gives perfect relief from common cold.

Aconitum napellus

Aconite is one of the great remedies for common cold and coryza, in acute conditions it gives

wonderful results, it is mostly used in first stage,

complaints arise suddenly and violently,

coughing mostly due to north west winds, and dry, cold weather

patient is very much restless can not remain in one place,

 there is great anxiety and fear of being sick ,

there is severe headache starts suddenly with running nose and violent coughing,

chicks are red and hot,

un quenchable thirst for large quantity of water,

aggravated by dry cold weather 

ameliorated by open air.

Allium cepa

allium cepa is one of the chief remedy in treating common cold and coryza, it is used in 

acute conditions,

it is a left sided remedy, eyes are burning with excessive lachrymation which is profuse 

and blend,

sneezing with watery discharge from the tip of the nose, there may be nasal polyp,

severe pain in throat with coughing, 

tearing like pain during coughing,

alwys desire for raw onions,

there is severe dull headache which is worse in warm room get relief in open air

aggravated by warm room and in evening

ameliorated by in cold room and open air.

Arsenicum album

Arsenic is also very well indicated medicine for common cold and coryza,

it is indicated in the first stage of attacks 

complaints are usually right sided, patient is very much restless 

there is great burning in nostrils, watery nasal discharge, but feeling of blockage 

in nostrils,

mostly right nostril is affected and burning sensetion,

there is great anxiety and fear of death, can not remain in one position,

chilly desires, sips of large quantity of water in small intervals 

aggravated by cold weather and cold drinks 

ameliorated by  hot weather, warm drinks. 

Euphresia

Euphresia is one of the chief remedy for common cold

catarrhal affection of mucus mebranes especially nose, eyes, throat 

there is burning sensation in nostrils and eyes,

profuse acrid lachrimation with profuse and blend coryza which is 

exactly opposite of allium cepa,

there is swollen eyelids and great itching and burning

there is violent sneezing and redness of the nostrills

coryza extends to the larynx within 2 to 3 days and causing severe

 coughing with great tearrind and cuting pain in throat

aggravated by windy weather and light room,

ameliorated by lying room in dark room and coffee.

Bryonia alba

Bryonia is one of the chief remedy for common cold

there is a great dryness of all the mucus membrane,

blockage of nostrils with sneezing and severe dull headache,

severe coughing, patient has to hold his chest while coughing,

severe thirsty for large quantity of water,

cold moves into chest, and severe dry cough,

aggravated by movement and from bright lights at 9pm and 3 pm,

ameliorated by cold weather and applying cold things around chest,

Dulcamara

Dulcamara is also very usefull remedy in common cold and coryza,

 it is very well suited for infants and children with nasal blockage,

there is watery discharge from eyes, sneezing and running nose,

watery discharge from nose, and dry coryza too,

discharge usually is yellowish , thick and profuse,

can not breath through nostrils, especially infants and children,

there is catarrhal discharge,

aggravated by exposure to cold weather, rainy season,

ameliorated by warm applications, warm room

Hepar sulph

It is a highly chilly patient and over sensativness, very sensative to slightest touch,

can not be uncovered, smallest part of the body must be covered,

cold starts with watery running nose later on offensive excessive mucus,

sneezing and running nose,

there is plug like sensation in throat like a fish bone,

swelling of all the glands and very painful,

very anxious and easily irritable,

aggravated by cold airs, by uncovering, by touch,

ameliorated by from covering, warm room,

Gelsemium

Gelsemium is a great flu remedy, very well indicated for prophylaxis in flu like condition,

there is great thirstlessness, severe headache relieved by urination,

patient's appearance is drowsy, dizzy, very sick and tired,

there is irritation and itching sensation inside the nose, 

later on running nose, sneezing and headache,

chillness running whole through body,

aggravated by before thunderstorm, early in the morning, tobacco and smoking,

ameliorated by open air, after urinating, by drinking alcohol 

Kali bich

it is one of the very well indicated medicine for common cold and coryza for the 

second stage,

blockage of both nostrils, mucus is thick and yellowish, and greenish,

there is a post nasal discharge,

severe headache because of sinusitis,

severe pain at root of nose,

aggravated by early in morning , weather getting cold,

ameliorated by warmth weather,

Natrum mur

it is very well indicated in the beginning of cold 

egg white nasal discharge with sneezing,

running eyes worse in open air,

cold starts from feet or sneezing followed by running eyes,

blockage of nose and tendency to develop cold,

there is great coldness and soreness in the nose,

cracked lips,

aggravated by sea air or wet weather, noise, music,

ameliorated by fresh open air, applying cold and pressing around sinuses.

GASTRITIS BY HOMOEOPATHY

What is Gastritis:

Gastritis is the inflammation and erosion

 of the gastric line,

There is a mucousa over stomach line

which is a barrier, a protector of the

stomach line, from erosion,

if this mucosa is demaged or erosed,

it causes gastritis.

Acute Gastritis:

Acute gastritis is the sudden inflammation 

of the stomach line.

Chronic Gastritis

Nux vomica:

it is one of the chief remedy for gastric complaints
it is mainly used in the people with drinking and smoking habits, who are eating spicy and fastfood
nausea and vomiting especially early in the morning
there is belching and blotting after eating
patient want to vomit out everything immediately after eating
there is great stitching and colicky pain after eating
enlarged livers in drunkards
sensation of weight and pain in stomach
shortness of breath caused by upward pressure of gas with ineffectual urge for stool and urine
disorders of stomach from over eating, taking alcohol, coffee, drugs, night watching, high living, debauchery from sedentary habits

Arsenicum Album:

Arsenic is also a very useful drugs for gastric complaints,

after taking ice cream, cold fruits, decayed food, strong cheese, sour beer

there is great burning sensation in the stomach after eating feeling lije pressure inside stomach

patient become restless and rolls aroung with intense burning in stomach

vomiting black bile and blood, the vomiting is dark , offensive, scanty and putrid.

sensation of spasmodic and colicky pain as if the intestine is twisted,

there is a great fear of death

diarrhoea worse at night and mid day

aggravated by mid night and mid day from cold food and drinks

ameliorated by hot drinks hot application and motion

Veretrum Alb:

bad effects of opium taking, tobacco chewing craving for acids , refreshing thinds, cold food

there is violant diarrhoea and vomiting,

there is cold feeling in stomach with cutting pain

nausea and vomiting just aftet eating,

gret thirst for huge quantity for ice cold water

aggravated by drinking and during stool, perspiration after fright

ameliorated by warmth and by walking.

Pulsatilla:

it belongs to plant kingdom, it is also very useful remedy for gastritis

causation mainly dur to eating rich and fatty foods, icecreams

there is feeling of worms are crawling in the throat that ends in vomiting

vomiting of blood or bilious matter

there is intense pain in epigastric region,

pain comes gradually and disappeared suddenly or pain appears suddenly and goes gradually

pain is shifting in character from ine part to another part

pain relieved by pressure or lying on affected side

sensation of stone in stomach,

oppressive flatulance in abdomen and hypochondria,

colicky pain obliges patient to bend forward,

aggravated by lying on left or pain less side from rich and fatty food 

ameliorated by open air after crying, cold food and drinks.

Lycopodium:

it is a wonderful constitutional deep acting remedy for progressive and chronic diseases,

there is a canine hunger, more he eats more ge craves for food,

there is excessive accumulation of gas and flatulence especially in the lower abdomen with loud grumbling and croaking relieved by passing flatus and eructation,

vomiting is sour, heartburn worse by cold drink and often relieved by warm drinks,

complaints are worsen from 4 to 8 p.m

constipation especially in infants

Carbo veg:

it is mainly used in chronic complaints it is a deep acting remedy,

there is a great indigestion simplest food can not be digested properly,

heaviness feeling of abdomen with frequent eructation and passing of flatus,

mostly upper part of stomach is filled with flatus,

aggravated by lying down, after eating rich food, coffee, butter , milk

ameliorated by eructation and passing of flatus.

Mag. phos:

it is a great right sided biochemic remedy,

it is an excellent remedy for abdominal colic,

there is sharp, cutting , stabbing, shooting pain in epigastric region,

patient bands foreword and loosen the clothes ,

constantly passing flatus to get relief,

pain comes suddenly and violently,

aggravated by touch

ameliorated by rubbing qarmth and pressure.

Belladonna:

belladonna is a very good remedy for abdominal colic and gall stone,

there is  great nausea and vomiting afetr eating and drinking,

there is burning and pain in epigastric region,

right hypochondriac region is very sensitive especially on lying on that side,

abdomen is painful and distended, 

aggravated by drinking and uncovering the head,

ameliorated by standing and warm room.

Bryonia: 

it is especially suited in acute complaints,

there is pressure feeling in stomach, as a stone inside stomach,

all complaints are worse from motion,

there is great dryness of mucus membrane,

there is nausea and faintness when rising up,

vomiting of bile immediately after eating,

aggravated by food 

ameliorated by complete rest and lying on painful side.

RENAL STONE

Nephrolithiasis (calculous Renal disease) 

is a common multifactorial disease.

it occurs in 0.1 to 0.3 % of population.

Males being more affected then females especially in young individuals, age 18 - 45 yrs commonly affected.

STONE FORMATION

When calcium and oxalate is mixed in water it remains in dissolved state,

But addition of further calcium or oxalate which increase its concentration would lead to the growth of performed crystals, but solution remains clear.

Further addition of calcium and oxalate will lead to appearance of solid form or stone.

 

CALCIUM STONE

High content of stone forming substances, such as calcium, oxalate, phosphorus, urate and hydrogen are present un urine.

It can be prevented by stone inhibitors such as megnasium, citrate, nephrocalcin, osteopontin, pyrophosphate, and glycosaminoglycans.

CYSTINURIA

It is an inherited abnormality in amino acid transport affecting intestinal and renal tubular cells.

This defect leads to large amount of amino acid excreting in urine.

when urinary concentration of cystine exceeds 300 mg/ltr. it leads to precipitate forming stone.

STRUVITE STONE

Magnesium ammonium carbonate and apatite together form stuvite stone

These stones are formed in presence of chronic urinary tract infection with urease producing bacteria.

most common bacterias are proteus and providensia and other are klebsielia, pseudomonas, staphylococcus and congnebacterium.

urinary PH becomes alkaline which is an ideal condition for stone formation.

SYMPTOMS

No symptoms if the stone is very small or ot is inside the kidney,

But if it travells to ureter,  bladder, urethra

it causes a severe pain in abdomen,

nausea and vomiting,

lumbar pain,

heamaturia( blood in urine),

recurrent urinary tract infection.

INVESTIGATION

Basic blood and urine investigation required which gives clues forcauses of stone,

Diagnostic imaging technique helps in viewing the size, site of the stone,

ultrasound of kidneys to roule out if doubt of stone disease or stone complicated renal failure.

HOMOEOPATHIC TREATMENT

BERBERIS VULGARIS

This remedy is mainly useful for urinary system especially renal colic.

constant urging to urinate, sensation as if some urine remained after urinating with burning in bladder.

urine slow to slow pass,

greenish , bloody with mucus and jelly like sedimentation in urine.

especially suited to left sided from left kidney to ureter then to bladder and coming down to urethra.

severe pain during acute condition,

there may be heamaturia with soreness, and bloody , greenish urine wth jelly like sediments,

in chronic conditions, urine dark with copious sediment,

aggravated from movements

CANTHARIDES

In whatever disease or urinary complaints such as urethritis, cystitis or renal colic, gonorrhoea etc. it is an effective remedy.
constant urging to urinate, before , during and after micturation,
oversensitiveness of parts.
violent pain with frequent urging to urinate,
severe pain on urination so that patient screams on every drop of urine.
pain aggravated by drinking coffee or cold water,
ameliorated by rubbing warm application

LYCOPODIUM

red sand in urine, urine is dark, red , albuminous.

during day scanty urine and copious and frequent at night.

CLEMETIS ERECTA

It is very useful remedy for urinary troubles.

there is frequent , scanty dribbling urination with burning and sense of constipation in urethra,

patient has to wait a long time before he can urinate.

the flow is slow or interrupted,

pain worse at night.

SARSAPARILLA

It is an excellent remedy for urinary troubles, 

severe unbearable pain at the end of urination,

it is a right sided remedy 

child cries and screams before and during passing urine caused by the passage of small stones,

urine may be copious and bright dark red 

white sand in urine

painfull distention and tenderness of bladder,

air passes from the urethra,

aggravated by sitting and moving,

ameliorated by standing and rest.

BENZOIC ACID

It is a great remedy for urinary system,

urine is dark , brown and scanty with urinous odour highly intensified,

there is excess of uric acid in urine,

there is severe stitching and stabing like pain in bladder,

mostly left sided renal colic

THALAPSI BURSA

It is one of the anti uric acid remedies and useful in renal colic, chronic cystitis, dysuria, heamaturia and albuminuria during gestation.

frequent desire for urine with heavy urine containing brickdust , sediment and phosphates.
